From the very beginning Mom and Dad Reizner always brought us kids along.  Early on we would get a cabin on Lake Geneva and later they would spring for full scale vacations alternating Europe and Domestic.  We learn so much about ourselves when we see other people and cultures.  They instilled a love of travel.  This section is where you may find snippets and stories taken from our many excursions and adventures.

Many people have a fondness for travel. In my experience it enhances one’s appreciation of their own life and how it fits into or contrasts with the people and cultures of other places near and beyond. It can be tiresome and sometimes dangerous, but also grand fun and a supreme learning opportunity. Some of the best travel involves joining with others, either in joint expeditions or having friends old and new welcome and guide in their respective locales. This section is dedicated to documenting and remembering various snips of travel I have enjoyed. Substantial gratitude is due to my parents, Alice and Bernie who never failed to bring us along as children and later adults literally all over the world.

What’s in a Name?  The Buzzard Origin Story

As I write this at almost age 75 I recognize that while my own nickname is not really a secret, few of my current associates are privy to it nor how it came to be.  Since 1969 I have been known as “The Buzzard” or just “Buzzard”.  So how?  Back then I went on a

October 2023 – Interim Statement on the Hamas/Israel Conflict

Given the recent conflict in the Middle East, we find ourselves in an extremely difficult and painful place. While I remain ethically and religiously connected with the State of Israel and all its people, I have mixed emotions regarding the history and actions of the Likud party, the West Bank settlement, and the horrific bloodletting

Edinburgh, Black Bull Pub Quiz

This is only a snippet from the 2022 Second Scotland Distillery Inspection Tour, two weeks of riding around with local guide and grand friend Thomas* McIvor.   Toward the end we were overnight in Edinburg staying in a new construction apartment right under the nose of the huge castle.  We were also less than a block

Cottage Grove: Doug/Leslie

Cottage Grove Feeling a tad guilty for going to Scotland for two weeks with the strongly implied caution, “this is a boy’s trip” i.e. left Mare home, I proffered to take a Holland America cruise to Alaska.  I, being previously ambivalent about the destination, found it pretty amazing.  But this bit is from the week

Jeeps And Canoes Ketchikan

Ketchikan – canoe/jeep  This snippet is part of our 2022 Alaska Cruise.  Though Mare and I have cruised a reasonable amount, we tend to avoid the ship offered shore excursions.  They are usually pretty good, but a poor value due to their high cost.  So, on our annual Sistah’s Cruise, the girls did none and

Drink Pack

Ok, the “Drink Package”. Holland American Line offers a bundled drink option. It is expensive, over $60/per day, and when we first cruised with HAL we figured a need to drink over 12 cocktails a day to break even. Note that it applies to specialty coffee as well. For this 2022 venture HAL comp’d us

Grand Canyon Adventure – 2013

As is typical, this grand excursion started with Brother George, who pledged to buy me a trip for my 50th birthday. Of course, by the time we went, I was 61, but a wow time regardless. We booked with Hatch Expeditions, an excellent provider of Grand Canyon rafting trips. We were extremely lucky to travel

My Jaguar

I have always been fond of convertibles.  I will open sunroofs in January.  I was asked to “adopt” a 2000 Jaguar XKR convertible the owner of which could no longer drive, but lived in rural Nebraska.  Although I am now certain that the odometer was tampered I did fly out to South Dakota and drive
