Agere sicut puer

(To Act as a Child)
Myself in front of our apartment building on Clarmont St. Chicago dressed to appear in court (or at Grandmother’s) age five, 1956.

Born in Illinois I spent most of my life in Michigan. Though I am now entering my 70’s, I – like most people – have little concept of that age.  Rather I continue to act more juvenile.  I enjoy travel, bicycling, art, music and –perhaps a bit much – food.

While not every day is an adventure I have had quite a few over these years.  This web project is coupled with my writing and preserving as many of these memories as may be practical.  This is to remind me in my pending dotage.

Where to start? I claim not to have “grown up”, but I did attend high school in Marshall, Michigan back in the 1960s.  The ever-confused suspended adolescent I spent four years at Michigan State University ostensibly in pre-law, but without any semblance of a real program.  It is actually odd then that about a decade after graduation and spending about a year on a Kibbutz in Israel, I got accepted to Case Western University School of Law in Cleveland.  Graduated in the top quarter of my class too.

The next 38 years of practice led me to specialize in bankruptcy law.  I primarily represented individual debtors, but also the occasional failed or failing business or even one or two creditors.  I spent 12/1/2017 through 12/17/2020 declining new clients and finally ended my last Chapter 13 case becoming officially retired.  For now I maintain a nearby office (though rarely there), malpractice insurance (who knows?) and my license to practice in Michigan. (I have licenses in Illinois and Ohio, but never was active).   So instead of saying, “not retired, just tired” I am making the adjustment to the 7-day weekend and eventual reduction of feline pets.  (At the height we had 23 cats, 18 ferals and 5 domestics).  We are down to 1.

I hope you may enjoy a story or two.  I prefer not to “publish” and request that you not forward any of my writings.  If you have someone who may wish to read, have them contact me for the  relevant password access.

Finally, is it “BOB” or is it “ROB”?  Almost nobody called me Rob before I went to law school.  It is a harder name than the squishy Bob and may have something to do with the practice of larceny.  I answer to both.  Since Bob has been in use since childhood it tends to be the default name…unless I am dealing with lawyers.
