Having spent more than a quarter century handling other peoples’ life problems – many of them relating to relatives – I have come to appreciate that there are good families and screwed up families. The latter tends to be tragic while the former is a constant source of comfort and support.
I count myself on the lucky side of that ledger. I may be impossible to live up to the standards set by my parents, Alice and Bernard. None-the-less, they were gentle, intelligent and loving parents. Granted we do have a couple of dark sheep hiding here and there for the most part our family – as cousin Marlene puts it- are “awesome and smooooth”.
